MiddlewareThe Dawning DataMiner™ Database Query Engine

A unique data mining and rules development tool (US Patent Pending)

The Dawning DataMiner is a unique tool for exploring selected contents of databases without having to write SQL scripts.  This opens customized database mining to non-programmers in a wide variety of applications.  The DataMiner is designed for use in combination with Dawning JResultNet Middleware for clinical laboratory applications, or as a stand-alone application used with any ODBC/JDBC database.

The DataMiner connects to a desired database (requires normal access permissions) and automatically senses the structure and contents of the database without SQL programming.  The user can select any of the available database columns to use, and can define a list of aliases for them to make the development of subsequent queries easier.  After defining the list of database elements to work with, queries can be developed to sift the database for selected information.

The Dawning DataMiner can be used for applications such as:
•    Validation of critical ranges by researching the actual LIS database
•    Researching test utilization procedures and controls
•    Offline middleware rules development, testing and validation
•    Exploration of non-lab databases for any desired comparison and filtering

The DataMiner GUI allows several types of queries to be constructed:
•    Single queries – AND queries that create a single comparison or multiples of
single comparisons (IF Test Name = HbA1c; IF Test Value >6.0)
•    List queries – OR queries that test for location/presence in a list
•    Ranged queries – testing for in or out of a range
•    Date queries – either a single query (date > MMDDYYYY) or ranged query (date in or
     outside range)
•    Delta check queries – takes output from previous queries, tests value against previous
value within a specified time, reports delta as a % or absolute change
•    Repeated Test queries – given a date range, test for repeated episodes at all, within
the date range, count the number of repeats in the range
