Dawning Technologies, Inc. opens headquarters in Fort Myers, FL
Company News
Released: May 1, 2005

Dawning Technologies has entered its final stage in the transition of operations to Southwest Florida by opening its headquarters, R&D and manufacturing facilities in Fort Myers.
With half of Dawning’s staff already operating out of the Florida facility, the move has been seamless in terms of internal operations, as well as customer service and support. The growing economy and positive business atmosphere was a major motivation to relocate, and Dawning looks forward to bolstering the dynamic business environment of Southwest Florida.

Tech company headquarters moving here
Press Release - The News Press
Released: Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Lee County has made further progress in carving out a high-technology niche with the announcement that Dawning Technologies will move its headquarters from Fairport, N.Y., to Fort Myers.
The company is also bringing its manufacturing and research and development operations to Fort Myers, said Jennifer Dunn, spokeswoman for Lee County's economic development office.
The move is seen as a coup for both Lee County and the state of Florida, which worked along with other agencies such as Enterprise Florida to bring Dawning Technologies to the Sunshine State
It's a move that will create 23 new high-tech, high-wage jobs, according to Gov. Jeb Bush, who welcomed the firm to the state he called "The Innovation Hub of the Americas."
Dunn couldn't say Monday what the salaries will be or what incentives had been offered to seal the deal.
But she was glad to see another tech company in town.
"Technology is definitely a key sector we are focusing on," Dunn said.
Dawning Technologies has leased 4,800 square feet of office/warehouse space at 6140 Mid Metro Drive, off Metro Parkway, and will make an initial capital investment of $70,000.
The privately held company, founded in 1984, makes interfacing solutions for more than 2,000 clients around the world, users such as hospital laboratories, instrument makers and information systems vendors.
"With its focus on e-commerce solutions, Dawning Technologies adds to a robust base of innovative companies that make up Florida's ever-growing information technology industry," Bush said.
"We're excited by the growing economy and positive business atmosphere in Lee County," said John Selmyer, Dawning's President, "and we've decided that it will be a great base for our head-quarters."
Competing for the business were Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and New York.
Florida has a big stake in the technology sector.
In 2003, legislators shelled out $310 million to partner with the Scripps Research Institute from California to open a biotechnology research center in Palm Beach County.
In 2004, Edison College in Fort Myers joined other local schools and businesses in bracing for an expected wave of biotechnology firms with the creation of a new two-year biotechnology degree.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, Florida Gulf Coast University in south Lee County received a $1 million U.S. Department of Defense grant to research and help develop biodefense devices.
