Description

Occasional system failure is one of the side effects of using computerized technology. Always unplanned, and possibly resulting in the loss of data or ongoing processing, system failures can be damaging to a laboratory's efficiency. With Dawning's Automatic Backup System (ABS) you can rest easy should this happen to you. This software application is designed to provide automatic fall-over to a backup JResultNet or ResultNet system in the event the primary system fails, enabling your lab to continue processing test requests without missing a beat.

The ABS Architecture

The ABS architecture consists of two PC's each with its own copy of JResultNet or ResultNet/Plus, running concurrently on a local area network with static TCP/IP addresses. The Backup system also contains the Backup Software that synchronizes configuration information with the Primary system and detects that the Primary is still active. Upon detection of a failure (defined as a configurable period of time when data is not received from the Primary) the Backup Software will start JResultNet or ResultNet/Plus on the Backup System, and transition all host and interface communication to the backup until normal operation can be restored. An email is automatically generated, alerting key personnel to the Primary system failure.

Ease of Transition

The transition requires a minimal amount of manual configuration on the host system.

ResultNet/Plus Requirements

2 PC's each meeting the minimum requirements to run ResultNet/Plus
SNI interfaces are preferred vs 530 cards
2 copies ResultNet/Plus software. The primary copy plus the backup,
both must be licensed. Backup software bundles are available that include both
ResultNet/Plus and the Backup Manager Module in a single unit
Windows NT4 or Windows 2000 operating system

JResultNet Requirements

2 PC's each meeting the minimum requirements to run JResultNet
JavaLins interfaces are preferred vs SNIs
2 copies JResultNet software. The primary copy and a backup copy,
both must be licensed. Backup software bundles are available that include both
JResultNet and the ABS Module in a single unit
Windows NT4 operating system or greater

Available Configurations

ABS System for JResultNet

Minimum hardware configuration: Dell® PC System, 2.8GHz P4, 1Gb DDR2 400Mhz, 48X IDE CD-ROM, 40Gb SATA 7200RPM HD, Intel Broadcom Gigabit NIC, 56K PCI modem, 15" Dell monitor, FDD, mouse, keyboard. Also includes surge protector.

Software configuration: Windows® 2000, JResultNet Clinical Router Application, ABS Module, pcAnywhere® v9.2 remote access software and Norton Antivirus preloaded.

ABS Software Package for JResultNet

Consists of JResultNet and ABS module. Installed and licensed as a single unit.

ABS System for ResultNet/Plus

Minimum hardware configuration: Dell® PC System, 1.2GHz PIII, 4Mb VRAM, 256K cache, 256Mb PC133 SDRAM, 48X IDE CD-ROM, 20Gb EIDE HD, integrated 10/100BaseT NIC, 56K PCI modem, 15" Dell monitor, FDD, mouse, keyboard. Also includes APC SurgeStation® power strip. Default configuration: PCI slots only.

Software configuration: Windows® 2000, ResultNet/Plus Clinical Router Application, Backup Manager Module, pcAnywhere® v9.2 remote access software and Norton Antivirus preloaded.

ABS Software Package for ResultNet/Plus

Consists of the ResultNet/Plus and Backup Manager module. Installed and licensed as a single unit.

Note
