Description
Establishing an online connection between your LIS and an external reference lab information system can be a challenging
task. Variances among test naming conventions and standard protocols between your facility and the reference
lab require custom mapping of these data fields to ensure proper communication between each facility. Other variables
such as printing manifest lists for the reference lab or using multiple labs add to the details. Dawning's Reference Lab
Connection Package is a powerful, flexible application designed to put you in control of these connections.
Flexible Rules Based Mapping
The Dawning Reference Lab Connection Package (RLCP) is a flexible mapping
application designed to match the test code names and messaging format used in your lab to those used by your external reference lab. This permits each side of
the connection to use their own unique interpretation of standard formats (HL7 or ASTM) as well as different transport protocol, depending upon system preferences.
You can define the mapping rules you wish to use now, adding to them as more tests or other reference lab connections are brought on line at a later date.
In the style of other open architecture tools from Dawning, you have access to all aspects of system configuration. This is your tool.
Supports Multiple Reference Lab Connections
The Reference Lab Connection Package is Java based, requiring only that a Java Runtime Engine
v1.3 or higher be running. This allows the Reference Lab package to run in Windows, Linux, Unix
or other OS environments you prefer. If you change information systems, RLCP can move with you,
seamlessly, saving you time and money during your conversion. Access to RLCP configuration files
is controlled via a password secured Java utility program that can be loaded on the same or other
workstations.
Java Based - Providing Flexibility of Operating System Platforms
An Audit Log feature is included in JResultNet. This security
feature keeps track of all access to and activity with the system. The Audit Log file is configurable in size and can be automatically
saved to a desired location or emailed to a designated recipient.
Built-in Protocol Handling
Its sophisticated design incorporates all the normal protocols associated with HL7 and ASTM
messaging as simple drop-down selections on configuration screens, greatly simplifying the connection
process. This application also includes TCP/IP socket, FTP, block mode, serial and modem
connections as pre-loaded list selections, eliminating the need for additional communication software.
Secure Connections
Connections controlled by the RLCP can be secured in several ways. An encryption package is included
that provides a variety of encryption algorithms available to all connections including SSL. When a
modem connection to the reference lab is preferred, the system can easily be configured to only
dial out and not permit any dial in connections. VPN connections can also be used.
Concurrent Operation
Like our ResultNet/Plus software, the Reference Lab Connection Package consumes little CPU
resource, allowing concurrent operation with other applications. You need not dedicate a workstation to the RLCP application unless you choose.
Requirements
The basic RLCP is available for applications in which some form of industry standard messaging is
being used by each connection. Additional charges may apply if the connections require excessive
configuration or programming time. Specifications of each connection must be provided with each
order or request for quote. A Linux, Unix, or Windows NT/2000 platform is preferred. For MacIntosh
applications please contact our programming department.
